I was bored this weekend, so I decided to compile some new statistics. This is simple stuff, really. It's just the number of times a person reached base safely via hit or walk, the number of outs that person made, and a +/- from those two numbers.
It's basically OB% expressed another way (a .500 OB% would equal 0 as a +/-, neither a positive number nor a negative number. Over .500 would yield a +, under .500 a -.)
This is for the 23 players with at least 10 plate appearances between 2010 & 2011.
PLAYER Reached Outs +/-
Fred Goodman 69 41 +28
Pat Atton 69 47 +22
Charlie Connors 30 12 +18
Danny Espinosa 32 19 +13
Jay Atton 58 47 +11
Drew Atton 31 21 +10
Jim Sullivan 50 41 + 9
Robbie Rogers 28 20 + 8
Cam Zirpolo 22 21 + 1
Tom Resor 22 21 + 1
Bill Davis 10 9 + 1
Eric MacDonald 15 16 - 1
Seth Moscowitz 13 14 - 1
Josh Lebron 6 7 - 1
Joel Kershner 5 6 - 1
Emilio Zirpolo 44 48 - 4
Pat Pickup 12 16 - 4
Pat Kelly 3 8 - 5
Ron Johnson 27 34 - 7
Jack Atton 30 38 - 8
Joe Baszkiewicz 40 49 - 9
Bobby Fallon 5 16 -11
Manny Dominguez 17 31 -14
Of course, there are other factors (power, hitting with men in scoring position, etc.) that are important, and a simple plus/minus isn't always a full picture of a batter's worth to his team, but it does give a quick snapshot of how likely a guy is to keep an inning going.
